Trams are light rail vehicles powered by electricity and run on tracks. Trams are a type of public transportation, also known as streetcars or simply trolleys, and are a form of light rail (trains powered by electricity are also referred to as trolleys). They typically operate on streets, with trains consisting of a single carriage, and at most, up to three carriages. Additionally, certain cable cars operating on urban tracks can also be considered a type of streetcar.
Since trams are powered by electricity, they do not emit exhaust gases and are thus a non-polluting, environmentally friendly mode of transportation. Tianjin was the first city in the country to operate trams.
