Off-road vehicle transmission, which uses gear transmission and features several fixed gear ratios. Depending on the type of gear system used, there are two types: fixed-axis transmission (conventional transmission) and rotating-axis transmission (planetary gear transmission). The transmission ratios for passenger cars and light to medium trucks usually have 3-5 forward gears and one reverse gear. In the combined transmissions used in heavy-duty trucks, there are more gear levels. The term "number of gears in a transmission" refers to the number of forward gears it has.
