By changing the axial position of three axially movable gears (namely reverse gear, high-speed gear, and auxiliary transmission compound gear) via the shift lever to engage them with the corresponding gears, six different forward speeds and two reverse speeds can be obtained. By changing the position of the reverse gear and high-speed gear, three forward speeds and one reverse speed can be achieved, which is called main transmission.
