The Big Boy steam locomotive features two sets of driving wheels arranged at the front and rear. Each set has eight driving wheels on four axles, plus non-powered leading or trailing wheels on two axles. The two sets of driving wheels have independent pistons and crank connecting rods and are connected by an articulated bogie, sharing a firebox. This type of locomotive is the largest in size, the most powerful, and has the most driving wheels in history.
