LAV-25 Armored Vehicle

The LAV-25 Armored Vehicle (English: Light Armored Vehicle-25) is a wheeled infantry fighting vehicle developed in 1980 by the United States for the newly formed Rapid Deployment Force, in accordance with the LAV light armored vehicle program. The development of this vehicle was jointly undertaken by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, which laid out tactical and technical specifications to meet the requirements of both services. In 1981, eight proposals from seven companies were submitted for bidding, with four models from three companies participating in competitive comparison tests in 1982. In September 1982, the U.S. military officially announced that the proposal from the Diesel Division of General Motors of Canada was selected. The Piranha wheeled armored vehicle (8×8) provided by the company was named the LAV-25 Armored Vehicle.
