A drilling rig is mechanical equipment used in geological exploration to drive drilling tools underground and obtain physical geological data. It is also known as a drilling machine. Its main function is to drive the drilling tools to break the rock at the bottom of the hole and to insert or withdraw the drilling tools within the hole.
