With the rapid adoption of mobile payments and the maturation of IoT and hardware technologies, vending machines can be considered a relatively effective model for unmanned retail. They occupy little space, can serve surrounding mobile populations, are highly adjustable, and incur no rental or labor costs. Brick-and-mortar stores can expand by using the store as a core hub, reaching more people and forming a chain-like, octopus-style expansion, which proves to be more efficient than the traditional one-store-at-a-time chain model.
