Static Var Generator, abbreviated as SVG, is a device described in English as a Static Var Generator, which uses a freely commutated power semiconductor bridge converter for dynamic reactive power compensation. SVG is currently the best solution in the field of reactive power control. Compared to traditional methods such as synchronous condensers, capacitors and reactors, and traditional SVC methods represented mainly by thyristor controlled reactor (TCR), SVG has unparalleled advantages.
SVG uses turn-off power electronic devices (such as IGBT) to form a self-commutated bridge circuit, which is paralleled to the power grid through an inductor. It adjusts the amplitude and phase of the output voltage on the AC side of the bridge circuit appropriately, or directly controls the current on its AC side. It rapidly absorbs or emits the required reactive power, achieving the purpose of rapid dynamic adjustment of reactive power. As an active compensation device, it can not only track the impact current of impact loads but also compensate for harmonic currents.
The cabinet of our company’s static var generator uses nine-fold profiles to mimic Rittal cabinets. Due to the very large power of this static var generator, to better dissipate heat for the IGBT, a heat pipe radiator with better heat dissipation effects is used. Additionally, the drawings include inductors, capacitors, molded case circuit breakers, and transformers.
