A winch is a small and light lifting device equipped with a drum around which a wire rope or chain is wound to lift or pull heavy objects. It is also known as a hoist. Winches can lift objects vertically, drag them horizontally or at an incline. There are two types of winches: manual and electric, with electric winches being more common now. They can be used independently or as components in machinery for hoisting, road construction, and mining operations. Due to their simple operation, large winding capacity, and ease of movement, they are widely used. Winches are primarily used in construction, water conservation projects, forestry, mining, docks, and other areas for material lifting or horizontal dragging.
