Assembly refers to the process of combining several components of a product through methods such as tight fitting, snap connections, threaded connections, adhesion, riveting, and welding to achieve a finished (or semi-finished) product that meets predetermined dimensional accuracy and functionality. Assembly achieved by manually handling (contacting, organizing, grasping, moving, placing, applying force, etc.) each component can strictly be termed as manual assembly. Assembly completed without manual handling (contacting, organizing, grasping, moving, placing, etc.) of components can be referred to as automatic assembly. The method that falls between the two is known as semi-automatic assembly.
