10-cylinder dual-row sleeve valve radial engine SW design 3D model. The sleeve drive system of the sleeve valve engine features a pair of drivers that enable the compound motion of the sleeve, providing improved port opening and closing.
One driver uses the engine-driven first gear to provide eccentric movement to the sleeve via a cam and follower. The other driver uses the engine-driven second gear to provide a small synchronized rotation to the sleeve via an eccentric pin and slotted sleeve.
One driver allows axial response and does not prevent rotational response to the other driver. The sleeve pathway permits higher and narrower ports, allowing the piston rings to be closer to the piston crown and reducing emissions.
