Electric Traction Locomotive (locomotive)

Electric locomotives are locomotives driven by electric motors. They receive the necessary electrical energy from the electrified railway power supply system via overhead lines or a third rail, making them a type of locomotive that does not carry its own energy source.

Electric locomotives offer several advantages, such as high power, strong overload capacity, high traction force, fast speeds, short preparation time, reduced maintenance needs, lower operational costs, ease of multi-locomotive traction, the ability to use regenerative braking, and energy savings.
