The first truly practical bicycles appeared in the early 19th century. In 1817, German inventor Karl Drais invented a wooden two-wheeled bicycle with handlebars in Paris, France. After its introduction, the bicycle quickly became a favored mode of transportation among Europeans of that time. In the 19th century, some Europeans also conceptualized ideal bicycle designs.
